Temperatures are heating up in the desert, but there are plenty of ways to cool down at Arizona Oasis, our resort located along the peaceful Colorado River. Every spring and summer, families from all over the southwest flock to this secret spot for a weekend of water sports and fun. Heading to Arizona Oasis in April gives you plenty of time to enjoy the weather before the summer rush arrives! Here’s how to families at the Oasis love to get wet...
Fun floats. Take a gentle float down the river on an inner tube or kayak. We rent one- and two-person equipment at the resort, so families can float together or enjoy some peace and quiet with a personal float. A great place to start is Mayflower County Park, a 15-minute drive north of the resort, in Blythe, California. Parents looking for a relaxing afternoon can drop the kids off and return to the resort for a few hours to themselves while kids make the gentle three-hour float down the river. Or, hitch a ride to the park as a family and float down the river together. Arizona Oasis Manager Jenny Buck raves, “For me, Mayflower is the best place to launch.”
However, if you’re short on time and just want a 10-minute float, your best bet is Gilligan’s Beach. It’s an Ehrenberg park that’s just minutes outside of the resort. You can even walk up the riverfront to the park, and then float back down. For a more athletic trip, launch at the resort and float down to McIntyre Park. Leave a car at McIntyre to pick you up, or have a friend meet you there. Kayakers enjoy paddling around the island in the river, or taking a challenging paddle upstream, and then floating back down to the launch, too.
Motor sports. If you brought your own toys to the resort, take advantage of our five-lane boat and jetski launch. You’ll be in the water in no time, leaving plenty of energy for buzzing around the river. Race your siblings along the water, or simply float down the river for a lunchtime picnic on a lazy Saturday.
You’ll discover parks and recreation areas along the river, giving sociable families the opportunity to meet new people and see the diverse wildlife around the river. Float further still and you’ll see interesting rock formations and stunning landscapes that you might have missed from the shore. The Colorado River itself is fresh every day!
Busy on the beach. Not ready to get wet? Enjoy our quarter mile of sandy riverfront, a true oasis. Relax in a hammock or palapas on the beach, or make some waves by playing beach volleyball. Kids love building epic sandcastles, which you can guard while they dip in and out of the water. Starting on Memorial Day, check out our Super Soaker Weekends, which make a splash with the whole family. Slip and slide your way down our hillside and into the river for an afternoon of wet and wacky fun.
Resort relaxation. Just because the day is coming to a close doesn’t mean you have to dry off and go to bed! Gather around the fire pits to roast marshmallows and tell ghost stories on the beach after dark. Or, head to the pool and hot tub to keep the splashing going. Our seasonal pool toys, tubes and water volleyball offer plenty more family fun in the moonlight.
And when you’re finally ready to get out of the water, stop by the clubhouse. On Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons, belt out your favorite jams during karaoke weekends. We’ve made it even more fun with silly cowboy hats for all of those Tammy Wynette soloists—but feel free to bring your own costumes too. Don’t forget to stop by on Saturday mornings, too. You’ll find different breakfast bar goodies each week, and a great place to get tips on new adventures to try.
So what are you waiting for? Family fun in the water and at the resort is just a short drive away. Spring break your way to Ehrenberg, where the Colorado River awaits.
