Out and about
Palm Springs is a fun and fabulous vacation paradise
The Coachella Valley and the Palm Springs area are bursting with activity, from museums and cultural attractions to outdoor fitness experiences and nature preserves, as well as some old-fashioned vacation favorites, like shopping, dining and entertainment.
Some local highlights include Palm Springs’ annual Modernism Week in February; year-round ascents to the San Jacinto State Park via the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway; April’s Coachella Music and Arts Festival and Stagecoach Festival; winter and spring hiking, bouldering and rock climbing adventures in Joshua Tree National Park; shopping at the world-class Cabazon Outlets and Palm Desert’s El Paseo shopping district, known locally as the “Rodeo Drive of the desert.”
Looking for something quirky and off-beat? Try live honky-tonk music at high-desert roadhouse, Pappy + Harriet’s Pioneertown Palace, where meteoric stars like Paul McCartney have been known to drop in. Pick your own juicy medjool dates at Sam Cobb Date Farm, a true jewel of the desert. Enjoy some of original “swingin’ 60s” desert dining at Palm Springs’ original Mexican hot spot, Las Casuelas, or extraordinary English pub Lord Fletcher’s, in Rancho Mirage. Learn the history of one of the area’s first settlers at Cabot’s Pueblo Museum in Desert Hot Springs. And don’t forget to visit post-apocalyptic seaside paradise, the Salton Sea, on a day trip.
